The Interdisciplinary Centre for Gender Studies (CIEG), at the School of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon, is committed to making this website accessible to everyone, in accordance with Decreto-Lei n.º 83/2018, of 19 October, which transposes Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and of the Council.

Non-compliance with the standard

The self-assessment identified the barriers below. The failing WCAG 2.1 criterion is given in brackets.

  • Navigation on small screens. In windows narrower than 1200 pixels the main menu cannot be reached, either by keyboard or by mouse. (2.1.1, 4.1.2)
  • Links within text. Links in content are not underlined and share the colour of the surrounding text, so they cannot be told apart from it. (1.4.1)
  • Bypassing blocks of navigation. There is no link allowing the reader to skip straight to the main content. (2.4.1)
  • Navigation markup. The menus are not identified as navigation regions, and the current page is not conveyed to assistive technologies. (1.3.1, 4.1.2)
  • Research team cards. The researcher cards and their close button respond to the mouse only. (2.1.1, 4.1.2)
  • Homepage carousel. When more than one highlight exists, it rotates automatically with no means of stopping it. (2.2.2)
  • Links represented by an icon alone, with no equivalent text. (2.4.4)
  • Newsletter subscription. The fields carry no label — only placeholder text, which disappears as soon as the reader types. (1.3.1, 3.3.2, 2.4.6)
  • Insufficient colour contrast for teal text on white and on purple backgrounds, and for light grey text on white. (1.4.3)
  • Focus indicator with insufficient contrast against the background. (1.4.11)
  • Listing tables whose column headers are not associated with their cells. (1.3.1)
  • Download links. In the regulations list every link reads “Download”, without identifying the document it refers to. (2.4.4)
  • Personal identification fields with no declaration of their purpose, in the contact and subscription forms. (1.3.5)
  • PDF documents published on or after 23 September 2018: it has not been verified whether they carry a reading structure, searchable text and a language declaration.

Preparation of this statement

This statement was prepared on 8 September 2026.

The method used was self-assessment, carried out by the team responsible for the website through a review of the source code and of the published content.

No validation with assistive technologies was carried out — screen readers such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver or TalkBack — nor any third-party evaluation. The barriers listed above are therefore those the review was able to identify, and not necessarily an exhaustive list.

Remediation plan

We undertake to correct the barriers identified according to the timetable below, starting with those that block access outright.

  1. By the end of Q4 2026 — main menu reachable by keyboard on small screens; skip link to the main content; visual distinction of links within text; labels on the subscription fields; identification of navigation regions and of the current page.
  2. By the end of Q1 2027 — colour contrast and focus indicator; equivalent text for icon-only links; document identification in download links; column headers in listing tables.
  3. By the end of Q2 2027 — team cards reachable by keyboard; carousel pause control; purpose declaration on identification fields; review and replacement of PDF documents.
